A Brief History of Time

Y1:D1 – Generations ago our ancestors began wandering further and further from home. The direct sunlight was invigorating, and landscape varied and beautiful.

While these brave pioneers into the overworld made many discoveries none would shake our society like the discovery of the Temple of the Ancients in the Great Western Wastes.

a story about a horror that rained down from the heavens.

Statues in and around the site clearly showed that we Kerbals must have been the builders and scholars that once dwelled here, yet there were no stories about it and not even the oldest Kerbals could recall ever hearing of anything remotely like it.

Within its walls were found evidence that these ancients must have had a great understanding of the skies above, and engravings that told a story about a horror that rained down from the heavens.

The carvings depicted a great ball of fire falling from the stars, disappearing over the horizon, and then a blinding flash. In the days that followed the skies darkened. The story ends abruptly, the carvings obviously incomplete and interrupted.

Our greatest minds conclude that this must have some connection to our oldest myths, the ones that kept us from the overworld for as long as is known. The stories that if one were to present ones self to the blue skies, The Kraken would smite thee. The stories of Jool locked in eternal combat with the Kraken. The stories we now tell our children when they misbehave. They may have had a greater basis in truth than any of us ever expected.

We shall continue to cast off the superstitions of the past, to forge a new way forward, to reach for the stars with eyes turned skyward.

Today, research continues in the wastes – and as we have now reached the end of the astronomical calendar discovered there it has been agreed that we would start a new calendar, starting at Year 1 to usher in this new age. An age that Dr. Von Kerman and his select group have brought to us.

And so we shall continue to cast off the superstitions of the past, to forge a new way forward, to reach for the stars with eyes turned skyward. This new unifying endeavor, this Kerbal Space Program, will see us conquer the heavens; unravel the mysteries; regain the knowledge lost, and touch every world.

This planet has been our cradle. It is now time to stand, to walk, to FLY!
